The LANE 'Yesteryears'

Awakening nostalgia for the grand dinners of yesteryears and the simple romance of intimate gatherings with good food and good friends, winter in all its moody beauty and the magic of a forgotten Sunday afternoon, this styled shoot will inspire the girl with a wild soul and a refined aesthetic.

A reception in a rustic wine cellar, full of history and stories, hosts an intimate dinner lavish of winter warmth and refined rustic charm.  Against the rawness of the industrial exposed brick and limestone walls, a mood of wild refinement is created with styling elements that exude a soft romance. Lush wintery greenery and warm hues of candlelight, velvety shades of rich green and burgundy and soft textures and raw linens are combined with magical botanical arrangements, delicately handcrafted and both effortlessly rambling and wildly elegant in their aesthetic. Think a canopy of branches woven with a delicate vine suspended along the dinner table, lush arrangements in silver footed bowls and julep cups and adorning a decadent naked layer cake.

Florist Julia Foulsham of Lua Leuca Floral (a handpicked favourite in The LANE Directory) and photographer Aimee Jones (beautifully documenting all the intricate details) share the inspiration and elements for this stunning shoot…

"Our bride is a modest one... She is wild yet refined, values quality and beautiful things yet is neither fussy nor ostentatious. She views a wedding not to be about herself but about a coming together of friends and family and celebrating love as a whole. In keeping, we selected a dress which is not showy, but classic and alluring.

Perth has so many unique buildings and we wanted to explore how some of these locations that are so often overlooked, can be transformed into the most breathtaking wedding venues. We are immediately attracted to venues with a history and a story. The limestone surroundings, so typical of Fremantle, conjured up images of the grand dinners of yesteryear. The wedding we have created is an intimate celebration set on a Sunday afternoon in late winter. Shying away from the bright outdoor ceremonies with lavish receptions we have opted for a small, warm, intimate reception in the cellar of ‘Young George’ .. a heritage listed building along the quaint and stunning setting of George Street in South Fremantle with a warmth and intimacy perfect for a stunning winter gatheringThe rawness and beauty of the cellar provided the perfect setting for lush winter greenery and the warm hues of candlelight. With rich shades of green and burgundy, the shoot showcased the beauty of winter weddings that is so often overlooked here in Australia.

The styling of the cellar was designed to complement and soften the rustic industrialism of the exposed brick, limestone and concrete which feature heavily throughout. A refined opulence was created through the use of metallics, raw materials in the way of plush cushions, fur throws, linen and an abundance of organic material. We dressed the raw wood table with a simple, relaxed, natural linen table runner leading to a less formal aesthetic. Botanical material was selected and designed to again soften the room but also create an enigmatic ambience. A canopy of branches woven with a delicate vine was suspended along the length of the dining table to enhance the intimacy of the setting, whilst the table was adorned with lush arrangements in silver footed bowls and julep cups, flanked with elegant brass and silver candlesticks. Colours were kept minimal with an abundance of foliages and winter florals in shades of white and cream with accents of pink and burgundy. Menus, supplied by Mitchell & Dent, were perfectly suited to the understated, natural tone of the afternoon.

Guests dined on share plates of locally sourced produce followed by a decadent naked vanilla and buttercream cake supplied for us by The Cake & I."
